Stomaphyx and Revisional Bariatric Surgery |
|
StomaphyX™ is a pioneering transoral device. StomaphyX is introduced into the body through the mouth. The procedure is performed under the visualization of an endoscope inserted down the central shaft of the StomaphyX™. Once inside the stomach, a small section of the stomach wall is suctioned up into the device and fastened with a suture-like fastener creating a fold similar to a pleat called a plication. As many as 10-20 plications may be created depending on the needs of the patient.

The new Stomaphyx procedure is a landmark stomach pouch size reduction technique ideal for patients who are either less than satisfied with weight gain after full gastric bypass, or disappointed in their overall weight loss after surgery. Dr. David Buchin is the first in the North Shore-LIJ Health System to offer the Stomaphyx procedure for weight loss : a minimally-invasive, endoscopic procedure that shrinks the size and distention of your existing stomach pouch. The Stomaphyx procedure helps to reduce hunger and food intake for the purpose of additional weight loss. Patients describe the results of the Stomaphyx as having the same restriction as the initial gastric bypass. What’s more, Stomaphyx procedure for weight loss is as minimally invasive a procedure as we can offer for weight loss, carrying with it the following benefits: The Stomaphyx Procedure: · Endoscopic procedure executed through mouth/esophagus—no external incisions · Reduces size of stomach pouch from the inside, leading to reduced hunger/food intake · Preserves future treatment options · Provides the fastest recovery times yet for weight loss procedures

Revisional Bariatric Surgery While many patients achieve successful results with their first bariatric surgery, for others the outcome is not as satisfactory. There are two major reasons patients seek revisional bariatric surgery. Some patients experience significant side effects or complications from an earlier bariatric surgery that are impacting quality of life. Other patients come to us for revisional bariatric surgery when they do not achieve the expected rate of weight loss. If you have undergone a bariatric surgery procedure, you may have ceased to shed pounds before reaching your target weight, or, less commonly, you may be losing weight at a rate that you find alarmingly rapid. Regardless of the reasons behind your dissatisfaction with your bariatric surgery, the first step in the revisional bariatric surgery process is to contact Dr. Buchin and schedule an appointment. |
