I'm Approved!

Hello everyone,

My name is Oscar Rios.  I've been attending the monthly meetings for several months now while I was getting my paperwork together and then waiting to be approved from my insurance.   That wait ended yesterday, with my approval.  I'll be having my surgery on August 27th, about six weeks from now. 

I'm excited about this chapter finally ending and a new one beginning.   I know this isn't the answer to my problems.  I know this isn't a magical bullet.  But I do know I want to see what my life is like at a lower, healthier weight.  I've already been making changes, to the way I deal with stress (without food) and setting up a support system of activities (without being food related). 

I know people who've been thought this.  I'm a good friend with another of Dr. Buchin's patients.   I know this won't be easy, but nothing worth doing is.   I kind of feel like this winter I'll be hibernating, and when spring comes I'll come out of my cave a lot thinner then when I went into it.   My kids have never seen me at a normal weight.  I've got everything to look forward to.  Finally, this is all real.

I'd like to publicly say thanks to Sophia, who I've pestered with multiple phone calls.  I'm sorry! 

I look forward to seeing everyone at the August meeting and beyond.

Congratulations Oscar!!! I know exactly how you feel, my surgery is Monday and I didn't ever think that day would come. I think it is so important to have people to share this with - and I agree with you about Sophia - there is a special place in Heaven reserved for her for her patience alone!

I am very happy for you Diane, I hope everything goes well for you on Monday.
As for me I am waiting for my insurance to approve me.  I will try my best to make it to th next meeting.

Don't give up hope! My insurance took almost a month, and I was on liquid protein in preparation for the call whenever it came. At this point I won't believe it until the surgery is over. Keep your chin up, it will be here before you know it.

The wait is hard, I know.  You don't wanna get your hopes up.  You've already don't so much to get to that point.  You want to start thinking about the future but you don't know what that future is going to be.   The wait was really hard for me too, but it's over now.  I hope it will be over for you too soon, and with a positive response.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Janet Lopez and I've been approved has well. I'm scheduled for bypass on August 13,2008.
I feel so excited and scared at the same time. Next week I have to start my liquid diet yummy .
Can anyone tell me how soon you could  to go about your day to day activities like work and cleaning that has me nervous I have two kids and for those who have children you know that means picking up after them.

Congratulations on getting approved.

Good luck with the liquid diet, I'll be starting mine the day of your surgery.  I've got a wedding to go to on the 9th, which is why I am having this at the end of August and not sooner.

Hey Diane, how are you?  I'm so happy that the surgery went well for you.     I hope that you have a speedy recovery.  How have you been since having the surgery?

Hi! I am happy to say that I am doing great!! I feel really good and have been walking (a little). I am adjusting to eating (slowly) and I'm finally getting a handle on getting the protein in. I am still on soft (mostly liquid) foods and have not yet challenged eggs or anything else. I'm seeing our favorite doctor on Friday and maybe then I'll dive into that area. My husband says it's time to go clothes shopping, but after hating it and avoiding it for soooo many years, I am hesitant.  :-\Like everyone else onthe board, it really believe it is the best decision I ever made. I feel so much better already, just more energy. And look at all the new friends I've made!  ;)Thanks so much for asking.

Great news everyone!!!!!!!  I've been approved by my insurance company.  I was so happy when I received that phone call, that tears came down my eyes.      My surgery date is August 20th.  I'm a little nervous also, but I know that I'm in good hands.
