Hi Everyone-
so after doing much reading and research- I've decided to post this topic
Anyone who has a medical condition that you would want EMS to know about when treating you during an emergency should be wearing some kind of medical identification. As a gastric bypass rny patient, i need to know that if i become unable to speak for myself and let someone know that my anatomy is rearranged inside, they could easily puncture my pouch and non-life threatening injuries could quickly become life threatening. Life is crazy and you never know what could happen-so rather than chance it, like I normally do I decided to look up on some sites about medical IDs. I found a site that is not too expensive and you can get them personalized and they have many to choose from. Mine looks much like a tiffany style silver link bracelet that I have, and it has my first name on the front with a purple medical cross and on the back it says:
Casandra K Miller
GASTRIC BYPASS RNY
NO BLIND NG TUBE
call 607-286-7652

(I put my parents home # on there as a contact, so you should put a contact # on there where someone can be contacted for further information)

its cute and fits its purpose. The site I used is creative medical Id.com
www.creativemedicalid.com
1-800-252-0661

Because my order was personalized it took about 3 weeks to get to me. If you have any questions feel free to email me or just reply to this... I just thought everyone who has the surgery bypass or lap band should know about this. Even if you are pre-op you could order your bracelet so you have it when you are post-op. You don't have to order from this site there are many other ones out there, just google medical id and plenty will come up. Hope everyone is feeling good the weather is getting warmer and summer is quickly approaching Smiley Woohoo

enjoy the sunshine,
Casandra

I also think this is a great idea. If you should ever be intubated in the field (outside a hospital) I think it is important that the paramedics know that you have had a gastric bypass.

I saw Casandra's bracelet and it is actually very nice and trendy.
