Hi Nysweety,

I'm getting the bypass NEXT week!! I'm so excited but totally freaking out!! this past week of liquid diet was rather interesting but I have found some great ways to work through it. I wish more people used the online support group... I'm going to try and go to the meeting next week. Hope all your appointments go well...

Dear Cassandra,

Thank you for your support.  I wish you all the best during and after the surgery.  If you don't mind, can you share some of the things you did to make the liquid diet easier for you.  Thanks in advance!!! Smiley

Hi Casandra ... Hi Martine,

Well, let me say HOORAY to both of you.
Casandra...next week is the big day.  I'm so excited for you.  Congratulations.  It's finally here!
Martine...I'm so happy that you decided on the Gastric Bypass.

I hope we can all meet up at the support group meeting next week.  That's the day before Casandra's BIG DAY!  We'll do a group hug!

First off I have to give kudos to sophia for coming up with such a great topic header Smiley  and I was definately saying that the first few days!! Then I figured that I needed to get tough and suck it up... ha or at least i was thinking that-

I visited the site bariatriceating.com and ordered some things to make protein and liquid diet easier Smiley

I ordered the new whey protein shots (i ordered the orange) they arent that bad- compared to other things. They come in flavors like grape, cherry, orange and now blue razzberry. they have a bit of an after taste but its 42 grams of protein in 3oz and no carbs or sugar. easy to just down and get it over with

I also ordered nectar- its a protein that can be mixed with water or along with crystal light. I ordered roadside lemonade- pretty decent I was able to drink almost 96 oz of water combined with this through the day. I'm sure that will change after surgery but for now at least im hydrated.

I also bought the sugar free jello and sugar free pudding cups (perfect for portion sizing and you can mix in a tasteless protein packet into the pudding) I used anywhey protein powder

Tomato soup with skinny  cow milk (1 cup of skinny cow has 11 grams of protein)

I used the zero carb isopure but mixed it with frozen strawberries (1/4 cup) and blended it. I also tried peanut butter, banana and cocoa- (my fave so far), blueberries were good too.
The best idea is to be creative and remember that nothing beats the taste of being thin. They have some great information on the website I listed before. There are plenty of options on there also Nicolette Pace has some great shakes at her office that taste like vanilla pudding if you into that kinda thing. I think they are called Bariatrix

I hope this is helpful I'll try to keep posting different ideas I come up with.   feel free to find me anytime
casandrakmiller@gmail.com or if you have aim my sn is afsoccercutie7. I'll definately try and be at the meeting next week

so after doing this liquid diet thing for almost 2 weeks. I've come to some conclusions... I think it would be easier if I had eased my way into it, like the week before I started a full liquid diet, if i had supplemented 2 meals a day with the shakes, then still had one meal to get my stomach use to all this crazy protein. i'm sure there is a reason why Dr. Buchin doesnt do that but I had read some posts on another website that the patients from various programs had done this.  Just an idea any thoughts on that??

3 more days Smiley

Hey Casandra,

Yipee!!  THREE MORE DAYS!
Wait until Tuesday when you can't have your protein shakes...just liquids, than you shall really miss those shakes.  I found the last day soooo hard.  But knowing the next day is your operation, makes it a little bit more bearable.
I'm so happy for you!  3 more days!  3 more days!  3 more days!  I'm smiling for you.

Hi Cassandra,
You stated in your post -
" I think it would be easier if I had eased my way into it, like the week before I started a full liquid diet, if i had supplemented 2 meals a day with the shakes, then still had one meal to get my stomach use to all this crazy protein. i'm sure there is a reason why Dr. Buchin doesnt do that but I had read some posts on another website that the patients from various programs had done this.  Just an idea any thoughts on that??"

At all our initial consults we tell our patients to replace one meal with a protein shake so that they could start loosing some weight and get a feel of the protein shake. Also to find one that they are comfortable with.

Casandra...

What a bummer about the support group meeting.  Oh well, there will be plenty of other meetings.  I'm sure eventually we shall meet up.

In case I don't get a chance to post again before your operation, know that I am thinking of you...and am so thrilled and happy for you!

Two More Days!!

Best of Luck.

Hey there Dee!

I'm so glad that i was able to make it to the meeting to meet you! You are such a sweetheart!! I will try and have my mom post something on here. Otherwise if you would like to check up on me you can always call the hospital at LIJ (516-470-7000) and ask for my room: Casandra Miller. I'm so glad I got to meet you tonight along with the others. Such great people. I wish they all used the online support group Smiley

See you on the losing side...

Hey Casandra,

I was so happy to see you at the meeting too.   It was so nice meeting both you and your Mom.  I can't wait to see you at next month's meeting.  Wasn't it a fun time.  I had a blast chatting with everyone.

Thanks so much for giving me your info...I will definitely be calling you tomorrow to see how you are doing.
Hugs,
Dee

Hi Cassandra,
Thanks so much for the detailed info you gave on options for the liquid diet. I'm on my 5th day and just received my shipment from Bariatriceating.com. Your inspiration really helped me embrace the challenge and adjust my expectations. So far, so good!
Thanks again!
